Is it OK to take a picture outside of the company building?

It was a sunshine Sunday. Lots of flowers, lots of green. I was taking pictures of my company's building and its surrounding environments (flowers and trees) at the huge parking lot and a man with polo shirt (maybe security guard) walked out with his arms at his chest (30 feets away from me) and spoke with low voice "you are not allowed to take any picture of this property including anywhere outside". I replied him "ok". He then followed me with a walkie-talkie for a while until I crossed the street. He didn't ask me to show employee badge. On weekdays, employees are not even required to badge in/out during the day. It's a famous brand electronics company in Silicon Valley and I'm a young Asian female. Think about it, how come we can see companies' buildings on TV news everyday?

You have the legal right to take photographs of public places, but business generally don't like it because many thieves/criminals take pics to plan for their crimes, so you can understand their policies of trying to scare off anyone taking pictures.
Reply:How does he know that you are not possibly plotting a terrorist act of some sort? How does he know that you are not at least attempting to do some form of industrial spying?

You mentioned the fact that you were an Asian female? What in the hell does that supposed to mean?

The company that you work for landscapes it's property to make it more attractive to potential customers. If you want to take pictures, go to the park!!!!

T.V. news is just that "NEWS". They are there to report an event of some interest, not going around taking picture in some "free lance" fashion
Reply:If your not inside snooping around with a camera he has no right to say anything
Reply:a picture of the outside is totally legal, just like someone's trash at the curb its totally legal to look through, but if the trash is in a fence or anything its not

unless they have a sheet covering the whole building, that you are going through...
Reply:IT'S NOT OKAY IF SHE SAYS STOP.
Reply:That's bull you can take picturres of what ever you want and if he had any right to stop you he should have flashed a badge or something-so what was HE doing there???? Makes me wonder
Reply:If the person could not show you proof of authority, don't worry about it.

And YA RLY, you can go to jail for picking through someones else's trash no matter where it is. It is personal property, you can be charged with identity theft.
Reply:eat yo' greens an' you'll grow nice an' strong. peep this ****
