I am always tempted to stop and pick these lovely flowers, but then feel guilty for even thinking of depriving someone else the beautiful sight of them.
When you drive down the country roads, do you stop to pick the wildflowers or do you pass them by?
When my children where young, I used to stop and let them run through the wild flowers, look at them, smell them, and learn the different kinds of flowers. I don't anymore and with the grands I should, that would be fun memories. I have been noticing them along the highway, new colors this year.
Reply:I really had to laugh when I read your question. Who can afford
to drive out of town to go down a country road? Years ago
we liked to take pictures of old barns and other out buildings.
But that was well before the gas started hiking. Now we do
well to run errands and watch our gas go down. So when my
husband makes a trip, it's usually to run more than one errand.
When we did take a drive, we would never stop to pick
flowers. Usually the roads were two laned, and there were
alot of curves. So that could be a wrong move. Also you
wouldn't want to get caught picking flowers on private land.
Some farmers grow them right up to the highway from their
driveways. Anymore, you really have to watch that you don't
tresspass and get a load of buckshot where you don't want it.
Reply:Guilty as charged or I should say, was guilty as charged. I use to pick them IF I was the passenger, and only when I saw a real pretty one and a bunch of them there.
Then I got to thinking, now if every body did this, there wouldn't be all these pretty flowers along the roads to see. So I stopped doing that after my last road trip. Now I go to the store and buy the package of wild flower seeds and plant them.
Reply:I pass them by because so many of them are protected in my state and it's against the law to pick them.
Also, in areas where wildflowers would be growing, there would be so many chiggers and ticks that it probably would end up being an unpleasant experience to pick them!
Reply:i can't resist picking flowers .
(never the last ones ,only if there are plenty.)
it reminds me of childhood ,when i knew the secret places where they grew ,especially violets ,and the connection with nature ,the joy and innocence , is with me again for a little while .
when taking elderly people in wheel chairs for walks ,picking 1or 2 flowers hanging over the fence ,gives them so much pleasure ,and they proudly put them in a vase to enjoy longer .
i say long live (responsible) flower picking !!!
Reply:Why would anyone pick wildflowers when their beauty is in their abundance and their ability to change a rather plain landscape into a majestic scene ? Most of our wildflowers in Texas wilt so fast after they are picked that you end up very quickly with any thing but a bouquet.
Reply:I do stop and walk around and take some pictures when I have the forethought to have my camera.
Many wild berries here so we do collect those, even if it is just enough to put on some ice cream.
Many are to fragile to be picked.
Reply:I love stopping, walking amongst them and enjoying the moment. I have been known to pluck a flower or two if I ahve my dragon with me...he does love the the daisies and rose petals. BUt he's only a baby dragon and doesn't eat much.
Reply:Wild flowers, like the song birds, are protected in most states and, unless you have permission, you'll probably be trespassing.
Reply:never tempted, here in the UK most are protected anyway and that can only be a good thing because mother nature is there for all to appreciate plus the fact that they will last longer in their own enviroment then in your hand
Reply:I buy a wildflower mix and plant them in my own garden. Everyday when i go outside, i have a new a new bloom and many different kinds. Lovely
Reply:In England, you would be advised not to pick wild flowers, the majority of them are under a protection order which prohibits people from picking them.
Reply:I never picked country side wildflowers because that's where they belong %26amp; besides, I have allergies %26amp; picking wildflowers would not be a good thing.
Reply:I look and take it all in for spiritual purposes. I would not think of picking wildflowers or any flower from an abandonned garden that I did not own.
Reply:I like to take photographs. I have allergies.
Reply:I drive on and hope other drivers see the beauty from our father.
Reply:Take pictures ....It'll make a great desktop wallpaper
Reply:Pass. If you stop where I live, you'd get nailed. No shoulders.
Reply:No, sorry, never felt compelled to do that. I just like looking at them as I drive. Thanks for the view Ladybird!
Reply:we have had a drought so there is hardly any grass let alone flowers almost forgot what they looked like....
Reply:Drive on. There are laws against picking them, around here.
Reply:I drive on. like you,let others enjoy them, too.
