My mother and I recently started speaking after over 3 years. I want to show her I care. Any ideas? I think she loves flowers and jewelry. But I can't afford too much.
What would be the perfect Mother's Day gift that is not too expensive?
Take her out for dinner and some flowers.
Reply:Can you afford $60-$100? What I did last year for my mother is I bought one of those little calenders about the size of 4" x 6". And I went out and bought 12 gift cards for from $5-$20.00 each. I took each gift card and taped one card to each month of the year. And then closed the calender and tied it with a bow.
She just loved it. Each month she had a little something to spend for a year...
Reply:Get her an Angel in Your Corner from www.shopirish.com. I've gotten one for my mother-in-law, my mother, my grandmother, and my sister (she's a mommy, too). And I have two in my house, as well. The "naturual" piece is very tasteful and sweet. I love them, and everyone who has seen them love them, too. That's why I'm getting them for my mom, grandma, and sister for Mother's Day. (My MIL got hers for her birthday in February - she practically demanded one after seeing mine!)
Reply:Go to a craft store and get an inexpensive wooden picture frame. Paint some sort of quote or message that would be meaningful to her, and put an old picture of the two of you in it. I will cost less than $20, and show that you care enough to take the time to do something for her.
Reply:Well buy her the flowers she loves and to each flower tie a piece of jewelry, earrings, ring, bracelet....etc (can be artificial if she likes them %26amp; if you can't afford much)............but i'm sure she will love picking out each flower and opening a little gift.............
Reply:Write some original poetry for your mom... type it up in a pretty font and print it on pretty pink paper... bind together with ribbon... and don't forget to sign and date it!
It sounds childish, but I did this a couple of years ago (I'm in my 40's) and my mother loved it! She still has it and sets it out for company to read. I wrote several "Mom" poems; many of them were humorous haikus.
Reply:Take her out to dinner, if that's too expensive, then cook her dinner, serve it, clean up after, and let it be a wonderful experience for her, she'll appreciate that, I would.
Reply:How about a scrapbook. Include things from when you were growing up, but also from the 3 years she missed out on. I'm sure it would mean a lot to see how you were doing from that time you were away from each other.
Reply:get her flowers there not expensive
or
get this beautiful perfume from Victorias Secret....its a perfume bottle shaped as a rose and it SMELLS AMAAAZZZINNG! but i got that for my mom on mothers day like 5 years ago. hopefully they still have those!
Reply:Flower's is a good idea, and every one appreciates hand made cards. You could make her favorite dish, or give her breakfast in bed.
Reply:My mom has a green thumb, so I buy her plants. She enjoys that kind of thing and its not too expensive.
You could take her out to lunch they always have lunch specials.
Reply:flowers are safe and cheap and ur mom cant bite ur head off for being cheap and buying them because flowers are suppose to be "thoughtful"
Reply:A bouquet of spring flowers from the local grocery store is less than $20 in my neck of the woods.
Reply:Give her a big kiss and tell her that you love her and take her out to dinner and call her on the phone once a week.
Reply:what about those necklaces, which you give half to a person, and you keep the other.
Reply:Let me offer a suggestion: chocolate! The International Labor Right Forum will send your mom a bar of the finest Fair Trade chocolate along with a greeting card from the Fairness in Flowers campaign, explaining how a donation was made to support workers who cut flowers in South America. A card and a bar of chocolate are given to anyone who buys three raffle tickets.
NOTE: You must place your order by this Monday at 11am, before the raffle closes and the drawing is held. Visit http://www.unionvoice.org/laborrights/ev...
On the right hand side, in the box that asks "Will you support flower workers this May?" choose "Yes" and press "Buy Raffle Ticket". On the next page, under '3 Tickets' select 'Quantity:1' and press next. On the next page in fields 1 and 2, put your name and in fields 3-9 put your mom's info and proceed from there.
You could of course go it alone, and buy a card and chocolate yourself but try thinking of it this way: $5 for a greeting card, $5 for a chocolate bar, $5 for postage - that's a $15 dollar value right there. Plus, there is the added convenience of having ILRF take care of all this so you don't have to. And don't forget that this gives you 3 chances to win one of four bouquets of fresh roses delivered anywhere in the U.S. And most important of all, you are helping the workers who grow America's flowers.
Why is this important and why now in particular? Here's a few reasons: first of all, the United States imports almost 80% of its flowers, with a majority of these coming from Colombia. In Colombia, 100,000 workers grow, harvest, and package the flowers, often facing difficult and unsafe conditions. Two-thirds of these workers suffer from health conditions because of the use of pesticides and other chemicals. Their hardship is more than chemicals however. Many workers have been sexually harassed or assaulted (65% of the workers are women).
Additionally, during peak seasons (such as around Mother's Day), workers will sometimes put in 15 hour days. 15 hours of manual labor in terrible conditions and, for many women, additional time spent taking care of their families, leaves little time for sleep and workers suffer from exhaustion. So when you make a contribution to a campaign to improve the working conditions on these plantations, you can be assured it is money well given.
*To summarize:*
- Spend $30 on this years Mother's Day gift
- It goes to a good cause
- Your mom gets chocolate and a card (and maybe even flowers)
- Last chance! Place order this weekend!
We really appreciate your support and best of luck in the drawing!
