What does the chess board on the cover of Breaking Dawn symbolize?

what do you think that the chessboard on the cover of breaking dawn symbolizes? Stephanie Meyer has said that the apple on the cover of twilight symbolizes the forbidden fruit, or edward, and the ribbon on eclipse symbolizes two forces pulling at bella (edward and jacob). she has also said that the flower on new moon doesnt mean anything, which shows that the chess board could just be there for decoration. what do you think that the chess board symbolizes???
What does the chess board on the cover of Breaking Dawn symbolize?
The white queen is Bella. The red pawn could be a number of thing. I think that it's representing several people/things. I think that its Bella's conscience, Jacob, the Volturi, and possibly even Edward. It probably also symbolizes something bad. Some bad decision, or person, or enemy. The chessboard is black and white. Edward views everything as black and white. Right and wrong. Good and evil. Its a representation of Edwards views and inner turmoils on changing Bella and probably quite a lot of other things.

I would also like to point out where everything is. The chessboard fades off into the distance. I don't know what that would mean. The red pawn is in the distance, almost faded. This probably means that there is danger, coming from behind. So its unexpected. It also could mean and old/new enemy is going to show itself. But as this is the last book I doubt its a new enemy. The white queen is the first thing that catches your eye. It is the only piece that is closest to the viewer. This means that everything is going to depend on Bella.

Yet, I could just be reading into everything much more than was actually meant.

After I had submitted this I was thinking about the quotes Stephenie Meyer uses. They are all related to religion. So, let's look at placement of this again.

Bella jacob and edward are in a love triangle. A triangle religiously represents the Holy Trinity. In the Apostle's Creed it says that Jesus is seated at the right hand of the father. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit create the Holy Trinity. Father in the center, in his throne, Son at the right hand, Holy Spirit at the left hand.

Presuming the white queen is Bella, she is centered. There is no one at the right hand. Yet, who in the story is most like Jesus. Edward! He's at the right hand. That makes Jacob at the left hand, making him the red pawn. So, Bella is "God." Jacob is "Holy Spirit." Edward is "Son."

There are many loose ends here, but it sounds logical.

I'm only 14 and not a theologian, so I have no idea how that would affect the book, or why they are placed the way they are. Yet, if I am right. Edward is invisible, so what does that do to the book?

You can look at what the pieces are, but I don't think that that is what matters, I think it's what they represent.

Maybe I'm just going off my rocker, but I think I'm on to something.
Reply:I thought that the flower on the cover of New Moon represented a dangerous delight, which was the whole point of the novel. The flower was red with blood and dying. Thus, the flower is the delight and the blood and dying symbolizes the dangerousness of Edward's love for Bella. She had to take Edward as a package of dangerous delight, which Stephenie Meyer quoted in the book... Anyway, I think that the pieces on the board represent the battle that Bella faces with herself. She is battling her mortal life and her potential supernatural life.
Reply:rememer how edward said (in eclipse) that she was going to be stronger than him and even emmett (and to challenge him to an arm wrstling match lol) so i like the white pawn means bella is going to be the strongest vampire or the 'queen' of vampires... the red pawn could mean something bad happens to someone thats not a vampire (because its a diff color then everything else on the cver) like i think something happens to jake (but that migth just be becuz i HTE jake...idk) the red pawn could also mean that she might be accidetally pushing edward back and its mking him mad... idk i guess we just hafta wait....

AUGUST 2 CANT WAIT.
Reply:"The cover art for Breaking Dawn is simple black background containing a black-and-white marble chess board. In the foreground there is a centered white queen, with red pawn behind and to the left. The title is centered at the top of the cover, with Meyer's name at the bottom. The significance of the cover is unknown."

That was provided by Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breaking_Da...

What I think the cover symbolozes is I think the cover of the book means moving forward leaving loved ones (Red Pawn-Could Be Jacob Or Blood As In Family Blood) behind. I think since the Queen is white it means what Bella will be like if she becomes a vampire-all marble like. That perfect piece! Moving forward and taking a chance it my guess.

I have heard the meaning of the covers are:

Twilight: The forbidden fruit. Also how Bella can become a snack in just a second. or be the apple of someone's eyes.

New Moon: I Have heard the cover symbolizes love can florish even in the darkest times. Which makes sense because when Edward was gone Jacob was there for her and a side of Edward was there in her mind.

Eclipse: I have heard events can unfold with just one pull of a string. Which is true because all these things just happend at once. The Volturis, Victoria, Jacob. All these things add up.

However we will find out about Breaking Dawn when the book is released August 2nd 2008. I can't wait for Breaking Dawn!

I Hope This Helped!
Reply:I think that the RED piece is Bella as a vampire, and the WHITE piece is Bella as a human. I don't know if you remember, but in Eclipse...at the end when Edward wants to "turn" her, she said no. I'm thinking she's kind of "battling" in a way that makes her say..."Do I want to be a vampire, or not???" Yeah.
Reply:So you'll notice that the pawn has a reflection, like Jacob, and the Queen doesn't, like Edward. So it can mean that Edward wins, because he's the Queen, or that Jacob is wanting revenge because the pawn is in red, like anger or something.
Reply:The White Queen is Bella - the most powerful piece on the board. The red pawn has to be Ed - blood red. Most chess sets are black and white - not red. So far Ed has been pushing Bella around and controlling her like a pawn. Now, Ed is the pawn and Bella is in charge. You go girl! Pax-C
Reply:I may be wrong, but I think that the red pond represents Bella as a vampire and the white queen represents Bella as human.
Reply:No one knows. Seth (Meyer's webmaster and little brother) has said that they are not allowed to comment on the cover art.

I would guess that Bella is the white queen.
Reply:It could be that someone is just a pawn in the book, hence the chessboard. That's the only thing I could come up with.

Hope I helped!
Reply:okay my theory that bella has always been the blood killeed pawn and now she will be the vampire queen.
