I love watching The Price Is Right, (LOVE Bob Barker!) but some of those prizes really torque me. Who in the H**L wants a carousel horse on a pole; or a huge popcorn maker or an ice shaver, or 1-full year of weekly flower bouquets and all other matter of horrible garbage they are forced to bid on in order to win the untimate Showcase Showdown.
(three-part question here...)
And when someone wins 3-cars (let's say) at once, and the show airs and they get to claim their prizes. How in the WORLD do they scrape up the money for those taxes. Do they have to pay the taxes beFORE picking up the 3-cars?
And lastly, If someone wins something really dumm on that show that they wouldn't use in a million years and couldn't give it away on a bet, can they chose to have T.P.I.R. buy it back from them for cash? I still think it would be an awesome experience to be on the show, but I watch it every day at 11:00 - 12:00 and just can not get over the crap they have to bid on - and KEEP! (yes?)
The Price Is Right - Game Show, Prizes?
The show has been on the air for a cajillion years. All is intended as good fun. Any prize can be forfeited if the contestant does not want it -for whatever reason. The prizes can not be exchanged for cash. The show does not make the winners pay taxes on a whim - they are following the law by collecting the taxes. Bob Barker has been a very good host - or he/the show wouldn't have lasted this long. ..and the show will continue on after his upcoming retirement....in terms of the carousel horse on a pole....ah - don't look a gift horse in the mouth - so to speak.
Reply:Yeah, I find it hilarious when a student in a dorm wins a hot tub! What are they gonna do with it? Or a living room set...
Reply:I think you have issues. I would think Bob will help you work out those frustations
Reply:If your show get free stuff they don't care what it is.
Reply:If you win three cars- you sell one car to pay the taxes on everything else.
If you don't want it- I don't think you can trade for cash.
Third question?
Reply:I agree with you, a lot of the stuff is pretty weird - I suppose you could sell it on e-bay though. It would be interesting to know from someone who has been on the show, the answers to your questions. I wonder if you wrote to TPIR and asked your questions, if they would respond. (Can't say I like Bob Barker -he seems like a dirty old man to me, with his scantilly clad "Barkers Beauties")
