I have taken a lovely action photo of a hummingbird hawk moth showing the speed of its wings whilst it hovers and has its proboscis in a buddlia flower. I am sure it will be of interest to some publication but have no idea how best to offer it or protect my rights if I show a prospective publishers my work.
Any amateur photographers out there had success and know what I should do? Thanks in anticipation.
How can I sell a photograph or get it published please?
You can probably get it published by sending it to your local newspaper.
Try this book or similar ones listed on this page for tips. Be sure to read all the reviews:

Reply:try various magazines.. wildlife and photgraphic
Reply:Ask yourself first why you want to get photos published. If it's to earn a second income from photography, then you'll need lots of great photos and you should sign up with one or more online picture libraries. I have a list of the most popular ones at the bottom of this page:

You could go down the route of setting up your own website, but it's a lot of work both to set up and to promote.
Regarding rights protection: a picture library will handle all that for you. If, however, you sell a photo direct then you will need to have a contract for the buyer to sign. You could "borrow" the format of such a contract from one of the picture libraries.
If, on the other hand, you just want to see your photo in print, then send it to a local magazine or enter photo competitions.
If you just want people to appreciate your photography, then you'll get much more interest and feedback by signing up to a community website like photo.net or usefilm.com and post your best photos online there.
Whatever you do with your photos, remember that the standard out there is very high and so the competition is fierce!
Regards,
Paul
Reply:create your own web site .. include your pictures with a block on downloading / printing and price each picture, and of course ... give details of how they contact you / order pics and method of payment
